The governor of Iowa called Friday on the Iowa Board of Regents to reconsider a recent proposal that would raise tuition for all students at Iowa’s three public universities. Beginning this fall, resident undergraduates at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa would see their tuition increase an additional $300 for the 2016-17 school year. That amount is over and above the $200 in additional tuition the regents approved in December 2015. When added together, the proposed tuition level for this fall is a 7.5 percent increase over what resident undergraduates were paying in fall 2015. Each institution also has requested different levels of additional increases for out-of-state undergraduate, graduate, professional and international students. “I think it's too much,” Gov. Terry Branstad said Friday during a recording of the Iowa Public Television program “Iowa Press.” Read more: www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/education/2016/06/04/branstad-calls-regents-reduce-proposed-tuition-hike/85383996/
