Denver group calls for GOP chairwoman’s resignation for posting racist memeThe regional chapter of the NAACP called for the resignation of the Delta County GOP chairwoman Tuesday, nearly two weeks after she posted a racist meme about President Obama on Facebook. The NAACP and the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance held a joint news conference at a church at 2150 S. Cherry St, and asked for three things: a formal apology from Linda Sorenson, the chairwoman who posted the meme; sensitivity training for all elected officials; and for Sorenson’s immediate resignation. Later Tuesday, Sorenson released a written apology, which was reported first by Earnest Lee Luning at the Colorado Statesman. “I confess to ‘liking’ a tired old Facebook meme, and I apologize for my bad judgment,” the apology read. “I admit to saying to the blogger that; “I don’t care if you’re offended,” however I do care very much if anyone else was offended. Please forgive me for being insensitive and not thinking of others in the heat of the moment.” “This is not a small issue for us,” said Reginald Holmes, vice president of social justice at the ministerial alliance. “She may be from a small town, but this is not a small issue for us. It represents something about the Republican party, it represents something about all of us if we sit idly by and allow this kind of racism to continue from Colorado.” Read more: www.denverpost.com/2016/06/07/denver-group-calls-for-gop-chairwomans-resignation-for-posting-racist-meme/
