Paterson mayor says he will intervene to try to revive $129M hotel planPATERSON – In an effort to avert the collapse of a $129 million hotel deal in a city that desperately needs an economic boost, Mayor Jose “Joey” Torres said on Wednesday that he would try to convene “an intervention meeting.” Torres said he would bring together representatives of St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, which owns the land where the hotel would be located, and Medical Missions for Children, the nonprofit organization that would build the project, in an attempt to find some way to keep the project alive. “I really don’t want to lose the job creation part of this,” Torres said Wednesday. “Hopefully, we can mitigate something.” Medical Missions had said the project would generate 470 construction jobs as well as 250 permanent positions once the hotel opened in two years.
