Time Warner Cable's 'blazing fast' internet speeds not so blazing, AG saysSyracuse, N.Y. — Preliminary results of an investigation into Time Warner Cable show that customers don't always receive the "blazing fast" and "super-reliable" internet speeds the company advertises, the New York Attorney General's office said. "Customers have been frustrated, as movies freeze, websites load endlessly, and games become non-responsive," Tim Wu, senior enforcement counsel in Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's office, said in a letter Wednesday to Tom Rutledge, president and CEO of Charter Communications Inc., Time Warner Cable's new owner. "In addition, it appears that Time Warner Cable has been advertising its WiFi in ways that defy the technology's technical capabilities and has been provisioning some of its customers with equipment that simply cannot achieve the higher bandwidths the company has sold to them." Wu told Rutledge he hoped that Charter, which is rebranding Time Warner Cable as "Spectrum," will "substantially improve the reliability, performance and speed of the internet delivered to customers, as well as how Time Warner Cable markets its services."
