Gloucester County School Board taking transgender bathroom case to U.S. Supreme CourtRICHMOND — Gloucester County’s school board will appeal a federal court ruling on bathroom access for a transgender student to the U.S. Supreme Court. After a three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Gavin Grimm, a transgender student suing the district for the right to use the boys’ bathroom, the school board asked the entire court to hear the case. The court denied that request last week. On Tuesday, the board said it was asking the Supreme Court to hear the case, calling it “one of national significance.” The Richmond-based appeals court agreed Tuesday to hold off on finalizing its ruling while the Supreme Court decides whether to take the case.
