Lawsuit against precious metals dealers alleges $2.8 million fraudA Palm Beach County group of precious metal companies, working together as Berkley Enterprise, allegedly engaged in $2.8 million of illegal, off-exchange transactions of gold, silver, palladium and diamonds, according to a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The individuals and companies named in the lawsuit, filed May 31, are: Jeffrey Slemmer of Acton, Mass., and formerly of Palm Beach, whose company, Slemmer Enterprises, was doing business as Berkley Hard Asset Group; Christian Dorrian of Boynton Beach, whose company, Dorrian Enterprises, was doing business as Berkley Rare Diamonds; and Adam Roth of Boca Raton, of Roth Investment Group in Boca Raton, doing business as Berkley Hard Asset Group. Slemmer, Dorrian and Roth could not be reached for comment on Thursday. The lawsuit says the Berkley companies sold precious metals on a financed basis, with customers providing a portion of the purchase price and the defendants extending credit for the remainder.
