Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on Wednesday signed a bill that aims to prevent drunken people from using firearms. The bipartisan measure, Senate Bill 20, would lower the legal blood alcohol level for carrying a firearm, from 0.10 to 0.08, the same standard applied in drunken driving cases. “If you are too drunk to drive, then you are too drunk to carry a firearm – there should be no question about that. This was an inconsistency that had to be addressed, and we did just that. This is a smart law. I want to thank the members of the General Assembly for their unanimous, bipartisan support for this bill,” Malloy said. “Guns and alcohol are a deadly combination, and when it comes to firearm safety, we should all agree that commonsense laws like this are necessary.” The bill cleared both chambers unanimously. It was backed the Connecticut Coalition of Sportsmen as well as gun control groups. www.courant.com/politics/capitol-watch/hc-malloy-signs-bill-to-prevent-hunting-under-the-influence-20160608-story.html
