Ex-U.S. Rep. Schock on opportunities in India, his life since resignation and his futureWASHINGTON, D.C. — Though many people have seen Aaron Schock in and around Peoria since his resignation from Congress in March 2015, his public comments since that time have been limited. But hours after Schock was seen on the U.S. House floor Wednesday for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to a joint session of Congress, he sat down with Journal Star reporter Chris Kaergard away from Capitol Hill to talk about what motivated his re-emergence in the public eye and some things he’s learned over the last 15 months. Here is an edited transcript: Q: Obviously you’ve been noticed here during the Indian prime minister’s trip here to speak to a joint session of Congress and meet with the president. As we’ve written about before, you’ve had a longstanding political relationship with him. Talk about how that played into this. A: I had the privilege of meeting Narendra Modi in March of 2013 when he was then chief minister of the fastest-growing state in India, the state of Gujarat. I had been studying both Brazil and India after I got on the trade subcommittee of the Ways and Means Committee as the two largest democracies on Earth we had yet to have trade agreements with, both of which had protectionist governments.
