Gov. Walker requests federal assistance for Mount Pleasant erosionMOUNT PLEASANT — Gov. Scott Walker has requested federal assistance for the Village of Mount Pleasant to control severe bluff erosion along the Lake Michigan shoreline. In a letter to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walker says the state and Mount Pleasant are working with the corps “to identify this project as a priority for funding.” He requested funding under Section 14 of the 1946 Flood Control Act, which gives the corps emergency authority. Walker noted that village roads and utilities, along with a dozen homes, are in immediate danger of succumbing to bluff failure. “The erosion of shoreline is threatening residential housing and the village’s infrastructure,” Walker said in a statement Friday afternoon. “The state is doing everything it can to assist homeowners and local governments.
