LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A longtime state employee has pleaded not guilty to swindling two Arkansas agencies of more than $142,000 and giving the money to fake companies named after her husband.
Forty-two-year-old Dawanna Walls entered the plea Monday to two felony theft charges that were filed months after state legislative auditors discovered payments to fictional companies.
Court documents show that Arkansas State Police investigators were able to trace about 170 falsified invoices totaling more than $142,000 to multiple agencies.
Walls is on administrative leave from the Department of Human Services, where she is a fiscal support supervisor.
