Gallagher show canceled: Gryphon Theatre removes act after allegations of racism, homophobiaA scheduled comedy act by Gallagher was canceled by the Gryphon Theatre based on some Laramie residents’ claims of racist and homophobic remarks in his show. Leo Gallagher, a 70-year-old comedian known for smashing watermelons during his act, was originally scheduled for a Sept. 30 show on the Laramie Plains Civic Center stage for part of his 70th Birthday Bash tour. “I’ve done more than 4,000 shows in 40 years, and this is the first time my show has been canceled for something like this,” Gallagher said. “Everyone has an opinion, and usually the ones that complain like to complain loudly. I have millions of fans — why would what a few people say balance out the positives of millions of people going to my show?
