Hickenlooper says Clements murder investigation is not closed after meeting with El Paso County sheriff
Gov. John Hickenlooper announced following a meeting with El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder and Attorney General Cynthia Coffman that the investigation into the assassination of state prisons chief Tom Clements is currently open.
The statement released by Kathy Green, the governor’s spokeswoman, contradicts letters Elder has sent to the FBI and other statements that he has closed or was planning to close the Clements investigation.
“We are just beginning to review and understand the scope of the investigation. We will continue to review and meet with law enforcement until we have a full understanding of the case which, for the time being, remains open,” Green said in a statement Wednesday morning.
The governor will not comment further at this time, Green said.
