Body cam video shows paralyzing injury; civil suit filed against La Junta officer
Earlier this week, a complaint was filed in U.S. District Court by the McDivitt Law Firm on behalf of Donovan Duran, an MMA fighter who contends that excessive force on the part of a La Junta Police Department officer left him partially paralyzed.
Now, officer body camera footage of the December 2015 arrest incident is public, following a Colorado Open Records Act request filed with the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office by The Denver Post.
In April, an Otero County grand jury declined to indict Sgt. Vincent Fraker — named in the civil suit along with the city of La Junta — and another officer for their actions.
Published reports note that while grand jurors said Fraker was responsible for injuries that left Duran paralyzed from his chest down, the action “cannot be the basis of any criminal charges.”
