Scrambling, Trump finds last-second spots for Dallas, Houston ralliesWednesday began with Donald Trump’s campaign scrubbing public appearances in Dallas and Houston from its campaign calendar for Thursday and Friday because of what appeared to be a failure to find suitable venues that would host a Trump rally amid security concerns. But, by midday, the Trump campaign announced it would be holding a rally at Gilley’s South Side Ballroom in Dallas at 7 p.m. Thursday. And a couple of hours later, a second rally for 7 p.m. Friday was added at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, just outside Houston, where high-powered lawyer Tony Buzbee is hosting a fundraiser for Trump at his River Oaks home that evening. And with those two strokes of booking, the Trump campaign avoided the embarrassment of spending two days in the biggest red state in America to raise money at fundraisers in Dallas, San Antonio and Houston, but without any of the mass rallies that have been the trademark of his campaign. The Texas trip comes at a time of peril for what, with increasing fervency this week, is being depicted as an unraveling Trump campaign, coming as a new Bloomberg Politics poll shows Hillary Clinton opening up a 12-percentage-point lead over Trump amid heightened restiveness in Congress about Trump’s rhetoric.
