ACLU of Texas accuses state health department of withholding 2014 abortion statsAUSTIN– The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas accused the Department of State Health Services in a letter Wednesday of withholding abortion statistics for 2014, the first full year since new restrictions caused half of the state’s abortion clinics to close. The ACLU of Texas said it believes the 2014 statistics were complete in March, and that public information officials at the agency were instructed to lie when asked about the statistics and say they were still being processed. An ACLU attorney declined to say how the organization came to believe the state was withholding the information.
