A bill extending dental health care to Delaware’s 116,918 eligible Medicaid recipients passed through the full Senate on Tuesday, despite objections from lawmakers concerned with the $7.4 million price tag. Senate Bill 142, sponsored by Sen. Bethany Hall-Long, D-Middletown, would charge recipients a $10 co-pay for up to $1,000 per year in dental care treatments. It would also authorize an additional $1,500 for emergency situations approved by the state dental director. Hall-Long said the bill, aimed at underserved adults seeking dental care, has appeared before, and its passage is long overdue. “Hopefully, we send the message that people who are poor deserve to have oral health care,” Hall-Long said.
