Former Valor CEO faces federal bank fraud chargesSCRANTON -- The former CEO of Valor Federal Credit Union used the institution as his personal cash box, stealing $718,000 for his wife’s birthday party, a golf tournament, graduate school and credit card payments, federal prosecutors said Wednesday. Sean E. Jelen tried to steal an additional $1,146,000 through a forged severance contract that would be triggered by his termination, U.S. Attorney Peter Smith said in a press release. Following an FBI investigation, the U.S. attorney’s office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania filed bank fraud and attempted bank fraud charges Wednesday against Mr. Jelen. The U.S. attorney’s office also said the 33-year-old South Abington Twp. man rigged elections held for the credit union’s board of directors, where he elected and impersonated fictitious members of the board of directors and its supervising committee.
