Upstate New York lawmaker puts a cork in bill that would allow alcohol sales at movie theatersALBANY — The upstate party-pooper who tried to keep New Yorkers from enjoying mimosas at Sunday brunch is at it again — this time with booze at movies. Assembly Economic Development Committee Chairman Robin Schimminger (D-Buffalo) has bottled up legislation that would allow movie theaters to sell beer, wine and liquor. “He is still somewhat stuck in a previous era,” said Senate bill sponsor Diane Savino (D-Staten Island). Her measure passed the Senate Thursday. “I guess we have a Prohibition committee,” joked Assemblyman Joe Lentol (D-Brooklyn), who sponsored the Assembly version of Savino’s bill.
