Legislature tackles gubernatorial vetoes, sustains Confederate museum vetoCOLUMBIA — The South Carolina Legislature sided with Gov. Nikki Haley’s veto and killed a study into moving the Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum to the Lowcountry. Rep. Chip Limehouse, R-Charleston, was a proponent of allowing Haley’s veto to stand, even as it was his idea to move the museum. The measure covered whether officials should investigate moving the Relic Room and Military Museum to the Charleston region. Among the artifacts at the current Columbia site is the Confederate battle flag that was removed from the Statehouse grounds in July. Limehouse said the executive director of the Department of Administration - Marcia Adams, told him a study would be conducted anyway, regardless of the veto. Limehouse was also frustrated with Haley’s remarks on her veto message about the site, as the governor described the effort a “legislative pet project” that would ultimately attempt to co-locate the H.L. Hunley submarine with the Relic Room. Read more: www.postandcourier.com/20160615/160619566/legislature-tackles-gubernatorial-vetoes-sustains-confederate-museum-veto
