National `Black Men for Bernie' campaign hits St. Louis TuesdayThe national group Black Men for Bernie will hold a press conference Tuesday in St. Louis, promoting its message that African-American voters should back presidential candidate Bernie Sanders instead of Hillary Clinton. Clinton's polling leads over Sanders have been especially wide among black and other minority voters. Sanders' problems connecting with black Democratic primary voters was most recently spotlighted in a clash between his campaign and the Congressional Black Caucus over Sanders' call to abolish party's so-called “superdelegates.” Black Men for Bernie national founder Bruce Carter, who has argued that Sanders has a stronger personal history of civil rights support than Clinton and that his policies will be better for black urban communities, will be at Tuesday's St. Louis event. The press conference will begin at 11 a.m. on the steps of the Old Courthouse downtown. U.S. Senate candidate Cori Bush and other local black leaders are expected to attend.
