Former Mason Co. animal shelter volunteer pleads guilty to fraudA Michigan woman pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to one count of fraud for bilking a Mason County animal shelter out of at least $42,000. Susan G. Oldham, 59, of Allenton, Michigan, and formerly of rural Havana, entered the plea in Springfield's U.S. District Court in front of Magistrate Judge Thomas Schanzle-Haskins. The plea was part of an agreement with federal prosecutors, who plan to ask that Oldham receive a one-year prison term when she is sentenced Oct. 21. She would have to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. Three additional felony fraud counts would be dropped. Federal sentencing guidelines recommend a prison term of between 15 and 21 months for Oldham based on the severity of the crime, the amount stolen and Oldham's criminal history, assistant U.S. attorney Crystal Correa said.
