Environmental group hits Ron Johnson on pollution, climate changeA leading environmental group has put U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson on a list of lawmakers to target in the 2016 campaign, citing his views on pollution and climate change. League of Conservation Voters has announced the first-term Johnson, R-Oshkosh, is among the first wave of candidates named to its “Dirty Dozen” program. It’s a sign the league, one of the nation’s most active political advocacy groups on environmental issues, will be a player in Wisconsin’s hotly contested U.S. Senate race, which pits Johnson against Democrat Russ Feingold. A statement from the organization accused Johnson of being “in the pocket of big polluters” and of attacking clean air and water protections in the U.S. Senate. “Naming him to the Dirty Dozen means we are ready to communicate just how dangerously out of step Johnson is with voters in Wisconsin,” league president Gene Karpinski said.
