Appeal to be filed against Tangipahoa Parish officials
Former Independence Fire Department chief David Maurer is appealing his lawsuit against parish officials to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Maurer was fired as chief in 2013 and quickly filed a lawsuit against several parish and Town of Independence officials over his termination.
A notice of appeal was filed June 17, and it should formally appear on the docket in the next 30 days.
His attorney, Tom Hogan of Hammond, said in six months to a year they will appear before a judge in federal court.
