BATON ROUGE — Sen. President John Alario said Tuesday the Senate will make a final stab at reducing two state income tax deductions on the last bill in play that could raise money to further mitigate budget cuts to TOPS, hospitals, higher education and other programs. "We need some more revenue, and if there's a way to get the votes to make that happen we should pursue it," said Alario, R-Westwego. "It the last chance to raise any significant amount of money." Lawmakers have raised $284 million so far during this special session, less than half of what Gov. John Bel Edwards has said is needed to avoid cuts. Alario is suggesting amending House Bill 50 by Rep. Jack Montoucet, D-Scott, on the Senate floor Wednesday.
