University of Oregon nets $7 million donation to renovate oldest science buildingThe University of Oregon announced a $7 million gift Friday from prominent donors which will allow the school to renovate part of the oldest science building on campus. Cheryl and Allyn Ford, Roseburg residents whose names grace the shiny 60,000-square-foot alumni center adjacent to Matthew Knight Arena, are giving $7 million to UO to renovate sections of Pacific Hall. Pacific Hall was built in 1952 to house the UO's science programs, but has been repurposed through the years as newer buildings were built on campus. The UO has no timetable to begin construction on the renovation project, but said in a release that the first phase includes adding 14 new laboratories in the building's basement, first and second floors. UO students, faculty members and postdoctoral scholars from several fields will use the labs. Read more: www.oregonlive.com/education/index.ssf/2016/06/university_of_oregon_nets_7_mi.html
