Christie's top political strategist was working on the public dime when he sought to line up political endorsements for the governor's re-election in 2013, WNYC just confirmed. In other words, taxpayers made an involuntary contribution to Christie's 2013 campaign. Again. It's further evidence of what everyone long suspected: Christie turned a state agency called the Intergovernmental Affairs Unit into a campaign office with our money. But it's telling that the governor's office tried to hide it, and that the taxpayer-funded, $10 million Bridgegate investigation by his lawyers, called the Mastro report, lied about it. The governor's office previously refused to say when top aid Bill Stepien left the government payroll. The Mastro report said the politicking happened only under the leadership of Bridget Kelly, of "Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee" fame -- after Stepien, who was much closer to the governor, quit as head of the unit.
