DES MOINES, Iowa — Two New Jersey companies and their owner will pay $45,000 to Iowa consumers and the state to settle a lawsuit accusing them of falsely soliciting elderly residents on behalf of a sham European psychic operation, according to the Iowa attorney general. As part of the settlement, the companies, TCA Mailing Inc. and T. Clements & Associates, both of Clifton, and the companies' owner, Timothy J. Clements of Bordentown, agreed to pay the $45,000 but denied any wrongdoing, according to a statement issued this week by Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller. However, under the settlement, the companies are barred from "any role in sending future fraudulent solicitations to Iowans," Miller said. The lawsuit, filed last year in Polk County, Iowa, alleged that Clements and his companies helped facilitate marketing, billing and debt collections in Iowa on behalf of a Swiss company called Regnecy Direct Marketing AG, Miller said.
