$75k settlement given to man allegedly called 'boy' and 'monkey'FAIRFIELD TWP. — The township paid a former mayor a $75,000 settlement in discrimination lawsuit alleging he was called "boy" and "monkey" by people connected to the municipality. The lawsuit states that then-committeeman and former Mayor Michael Sharp was called "boy" on May 14, 2013, during a township meeting by Joseph Servais, on June 12, 2013, by Russell Pierce and on July 5, 2013, by Richard Servais. Richard Servais was the husband of then-Mayor JoAnne Servais and Joseph Servais is her son. Pierce works as a volunteer for the township. Pierce allegedly referred to Sharp and his election running mate as "monkeys" on June 7, 2013.
