The facts about what Roy Cooper, Pat McCrory said about education in debateIn their first debate, North Carolina’s candidates for governor criticized each other over House Bill 2, taxes, a toll road project near Charlotte and more. Education, though, was the part of the relatively short debate that saw some of strongest attacks and boldest claims by Roy Cooper and Pat McCrory, as well as some of the biggest audience applause. Here we’ll try to add a little context that may have been missing from the time-limited debate. Read more here: www.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/article85962217.html Both candidates were able to spin why their party treated teachers more favorably and to also denounce the opposition. While Gov. McCrory is correct about his administration providing the largest percentage increase in salaries in the nation, it was because of stagnant salaries and abysmal pay that when his administration finally acted it looked like something was accomplished. There were also outside factors on a macroeconomic level such as the Great Recession of 2008.
