ROCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE — During an event at the Rochester Opera House on Friday, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton promised to raise taxes on the rich, and to create an environment where poor and middle class Americans can get ahead. “I will raise taxes on the wealthy. I think it is long past due,” Clinton said. Clinton told the crowd she would force individuals who earn more that $1 million a year to pay 30 percent of their wages in federal income taxes. If an individual makes more than $5 million a year, Clinton will impose a 4 percent surcharge on them. Clinton told the crowd that she has met with people all over the country who are struggling to get by, even though they are employed. She started her speech by citing the example of a woman she met in Iowa who is working three minimum wage jobs, just to support herself and her daughter.
