MONTPELIER — The Vermont Democratic Party has banished a candidate who is running as a Democrat for governor and attorney general following his incendiary comments on Facebook. Washington resident H. Brooke Paige is a perennial candidate for statewide office, launching a bid for one of more of the state’s highest offices every election cycle. In August, Democratic voters will see his name on the ballot for governor — facing off against Matt Dunne, Peter Galbraith, Sue Minter and frequent fringe candidate Cris Ericson — and for attorney general, facing Chittenden County State’s Attorney T.J. Donovan. However, in a move that is without precedent in recent political history, the state Democratic Party has returned Paige’s financial contributions and sent him a letter asking him to “refrain from attending this and all future events sponsored by the Vermont Democratic Party.” “The Vermont Democratic Party is committed to protecting our staff and volunteers from harassment and bullying,” continues the letter, dated June 13. “Your comments violate the policies that we as a Party and as a staff strive to uphold. This includes respecting all Vermonters — something we expect of all of our candidates.” Read more: www.timesargus.com/article/20160626/NEWS03/160629725
