CARLSBAD — Employees at New Mexico State University are facing benefit cuts after a decision Monday by the university's board of regents. The five-member board voted unanimously to approve the cuts. The university is attempting to cut $12.1 million from next year's budget, in a time of falling oil and gas revenue and continued drops in enrollment. "It's in response to the university's budget situation," said Minerva Baumann, director of media relations for New Mexico State University. The university's 2,259 full time faculty and staff are expected to be affected by the decision. Some of the university's part time employees will also be affected.
