If Rep. Mia Love, Sen. Orin Hatch and Utah’s other representatives, both nationally and within the state, truly want to do something about health care, they should pay attention to the government’s own reports. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services, has tracked disparities in health care in the United States. The agency does so under mandate from the United States Congress. The National Healthcare Disparities Report (NHDR) in 2010 summarized three dozen data bases to examine the causes of low health care. Their conclusion: Access to health care and the disparities in health care are the primary reasons the United States falls behind other countries. The report also discusses provider biases, poor communication between providers and recipients, and poor health literacy. But the report notes: All Americans should have equal access to high-quality care. Instead, the authors find that racial and ethnic minorities and poor people often receive poorer quality of care and face more barriers to care. www.heraldextra.com/news/opinion/local-guest-opinions/guest-opinion-better-health-care-a-must-for-minorites-poor/article_94488171-0411-5da3-9b0f-d298a293ec69.htmlRead more: burnoatus.freeforums.net/thread/278/health-care-minorites-poor?page=1#ixzz4RxqhMu7S
