A contract nurse at the Beaumont federal prison will spend three years behind bars for smuggling heroin into the complex for distribution, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Texas. Lakista Lashau Davis, 44, of Beaumont, was sentenced Thursday after she pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin, according to a news release. From November 2014 to March 2015, Davis, as a contract nurse for the prison, conspired with an inmate to smuggle the drugs to sell among other inmates, according to information presented in court.
