Testing the waters: $1B plan would make river navigable from Shreveport to Dallas area, increase Texarkana's stance as transportation hub
A plan to make the Red River navigable from Shreveport, La., to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex would cost an estimated $1 billion, according to Red River Valley Association officials. A presentation Thursday hosted by Texas A&M University-Texarkana College of Business focused on ideas to make navigation a reality from Shreveport through Index in Arkansas to Lake Texoma at Denison, Texas. The proposal includes building three locks and dams from Shreveport to Denison, which is about 80 miles from the center of Dallas, said Richard Brontoli, RRVA executive director. "The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex has absorbed Sherman and Denison," Brontoli said.
