Ex-N.J. assemblyman guilty of $5.3M fraud to be sentenced next monthSOMERVILLE -- The sentencing of former Assemblyman Robert Schroeder has been pushed back to mid-January. Schroeder, a Republican, pleaded guilty in October to stealing nearly $1.9 million from people who loaned him money for a business venture and writing more than $3.4 million in bad checks to other creditors. His sentencing had initially been set for Dec. 22, but the court rescheduled it for Jan. 13, a spokesman for the state attorney general's office confirmed Tuesday. Under the plea agreement, the state will recommend that Schroeder be sentenced to eight years in state prison. He will be required to pay back the more than $5.3 million he stole from his victims and be barred from holding public office or public employment in New Jersey.
