FRANKFORT, Ky. – The man recently appointed as director of resorts for the Kentucky Department of Parks despite a past violation of the state government ethics code has resigned. John Rittenhouse submitted his resignation on Friday. The resignation came after The Courier-Journal filed requests with the Parks Department and the Executive Branch Ethics Commission seeking emails relating to the ethics violation. “It was and is, my contention I committed no violation of ethics law…” Rittenhouse said in his letter of resignation. But he said “the negative publicity” over the ethics violation “is more than the new administration deserves…” He said he hoped his resignation “will end the negativity of my hiring and put the focus back on righting the ship of our great Commonwealth.” The Bevin administration announced on Jan. 14 that Rittenhouse, who lives in Cadiz and previously managed two state park resorts, had been appointed as director of resorts – a job that pays $75,190 per year.
