FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Florida sunshine can be hard to resist, even for a giant Burmese python. In the midst of unseasonably cold temperatures last week, a 16-foot-10-inch Burmese python stopped to catch some rays in the Rocky Glades Hunting area of Everglades National Park. He got burned — a Florida Fish and Wildlife officer shot and killed him on the spot. “Generally when you have cool weather and then you have the sun coming out, it makes a nice situation for reptiles to come out,” said Carli Segelson, a spokeswoman for the wildlife commission.
