Gov. Rick Scott hasn't offered state workers a raise, but they might still get one. On Tuesday morning, Sen. Arthenia Joyner’s proposal setting aside $262 million for a 3-percent increase for state government and higher education employees gets a hearing in the Government Oversight Committee. According to a staff analysis of the bill, 80,564 Career Service employees receive an average pay of $35,564. In 2011 they received a 3-percent raise, which was wiped out by a 3-percent payroll pension tax. In his budget recommendation, Gov. Scott did not propose any raises, but recommended cutting another 864 employees from the government’s workforce. According to a Department of Management Services Report, Florida has the fewest state employees per capita in the country. “We’ve got state employees doing more than one job,” said Sen. Bill Montford, D-Tallahassee. “Forget if that is good or bad; it is the fact. And another fact is they have haven’t had a raise in eight years, well one raise, a small raise. And the fact is we then took 3 percent of their salaries.” Read more: www.tallahassee.com/story/news/politics/2016/01/25/state-employee-pay-raises-get-hearing/79309202/
