Curry's pension bill clears first Senate committee with unanimous vote
TALLAHASSEE | Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry’s pension-reform bill got a friendly reception during its first committee hearing.
The Senate Community Affairs Committee gave unanimous approval to Senate Bill 1652, which would allow Duval County voters to decide whether to extend the Better Jacksonville Plan sales tax to pay down pension debt. Two other Senate committees need to hear the bill before it is eligible for a floor vote.
The House Finance and Tax Committee will consider companion legislation on Wednesday. This is the first of two committee stops in that chamber.
