Nebraska Legislature fails to adopt permanent rules after fierce fight over filibustersLINCOLN — A fight over filibuster rules erupted on the floor of the Nebraska Legislature on Friday, revealing frustrations about partisanship and how long it’s taking to get on to the state’s business. Senators adjourned without adopting permanent rules, instead choosing to extend the temporary rules for more than a week in hopes that a compromise will be reached in the meantime. State Sen. Burke Harr of Omaha, a Democrat, said there’s a good faith effort on both sides to negotiate. “The question is: How do we determine majority rule with minority rights?” he said.
