An Indianapolis man was recently sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison following his conviction last fall on a charge of illegally possessing ammunition. Ruben Mancillas, 50, faced the charge after he was arrested for firing a handgun in the air in an east-side neighborhood, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office. Mancillas was arrested in Aug. 2015 when neighbors called the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department after seeing him in an argument with his girlfriend, during which time he allegedly fired a handgun into the air. He fled the scene, according to the release, but was located and arrested by IMPD officers. Ballistics-sniffing dogs helped officers find dozens of rounds of ammunition at the scene.
