WAUSAU - U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wausau, set off a firestorm Tuesday after claiming on national television that a recent terrorist attack committed by a white extremist was a rare event. "That was a one-off," Duffy told CNN when asked about a shooting at a Quebec, Canada, mosque last month that left six people dead and 17 others injured. Police identified the gunman as a 27-year-old white man who had previously expressed anti-immigrant views and described him as a "criminal extremist." CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota had specifically asked Duffy why President Donald Trump was not talking about the Canadian terrorist attack in the context of Trump’s travel ban on immigrants from seven predominately Muslim countries. Duffy responded that he didn’t know the answer and that "death and murder on both sides is wrong."
