COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio drivers could pay an additional $5 per year to renew their license plates and a few dollars more more when renewing driver's licenses, under a proposal in the Ohio statehouse. County commissioners could levy the $5 motor vehicle license fee, specifically to be used for transportation projects, under language added Tuesday to the state transportation budget bill. The County Engineers Association of Ohio said costs to repair and maintain roads and bridges are rising and, statewide, those efforts are short $670 million. Lawmakers also added language raising the service fee paid to a deputy registrar from $3.50 to $5.25. The fee is paid when people renew their licenses, get a state ID card or engage in other services. Read more: www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/02/ohio_drivers_licenses_plates_c.html
