Gov. John Bel Edwards will meet with President Donald Trump Monday in Washington to ask the president for more federal disaster recovery help from flooding and tornadoes. Edwards is traveling to Washington Friday for the National Governors Association Winter meeting, where he will participate in his first meeting as a member of the Council of Governors, an appointment made by former President Barack Obama. The council is a bipartisan panel established to strengthen partnerships between the federal government and state governments. Its membership is made up of 10 state governors appointed by the president. On Sunday, Edwards will meet with acting Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Robert Fenton Jr. to brief him on Louisiana's ongoing recovery from two major floods last year and this month's tornadoes in southern Louisiana.
