State officials pledge improvements in education of juvenile offendersState education officials pledged Wednesday to hire new teachers, fill vacancies and make other changes to improve the beleaguered school system that serves Maryland's juvenile offenders. "We need to mitigate these problems because these students are the most vulnerable in the state," Smith told members of the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday. "Everybody owns this situation." Read more: www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/politics/bs-md-juvenile-schools-hearing-20160127-story.html
