Honda to invest $100 million in GA plant to craft 10-speed automaticHonda Motor Company is pouring big bucks into its Georgia plant as it finalizes plans to craft the world’s first 10-speed automatic transmission. The Japanese automaker will place the transmission in front-drive 2018 Honda Odysseys as the prototype and will expand to different models over the comping years. The transmission will feature considerable fuel efficiency we well. The $100 million investment is big news for the northwest Georgia plant and the company says the 400,000 square foot transmission plant in Tallapoosa, Ga is the best location to easily transport transmissions to Lincoln, Ala. The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports: The transmission is expected to deliver a 14 percent improvement in highway passing and a 30 percent faster gear-change response time, according to Automotive Engineering. The 10-speed is also expected to boost the Odyssey’s fuel economy by at least 6 percent over the 6-speed.
