Madison joined a group of about 70 cities in declaring March 21 a day of action for immigrants. By adopting the resolution at its meeting Tuesday night, the City Council declared its “solidarity with the immigrant community” and asserts its “commitment to the values of diversity, inclusiveness and equality.” The U.S. Conference of Mayors is leading the group of local leaders across the nation in calling on the federal government to enact comprehensive immigration reform and enforce immigration laws in a “humane manner.” They also support seeking strategies to protect all resident and ensuring that local law enforcement is focused on community policing.
