Nebraska Legislature committee crafts early version of tax cut package
LINCOLN — The Legislature’s Revenue Committee sparred Thursday over the pieces of a tax cut package as outside groups ramped up the pressure for major property tax relief.
The committee majority tentatively decided to put a trio of bills into the emerging package.
The three include: Gov. Pete Ricketts’ plan to cut the top income tax rate, his proposal to change how farm and ranch land is valued, and a bill to change the bottom two income tax brackets and lower corporate tax rates.
State Sen. Burke Harr of Omaha, who voted against all three bills, expressed skepticism about whether the package would hold together on floor of the Legislature.
