The Winter X Games, ESPN’s extravaganza of extreme snow sports, kicked off on Thursday with its crowd-pleasing showcase of some of the world’s best aerial athletes. But a mystery has settled over the high-altitude stage in Aspen, Colo. Shaun White, whose style and dominance of snowboarding over a decade have made him the sport’s biggest star, is not in the lineup — and so far nobody is saying why. “He was not invited,” Danny Chi, an ESPN spokesman, said in an email. He declined to discuss it further. Efforts to reach White, 29, were unsuccessful. Read more: www.nytimes.com/2016/01/30/sports/x-games-kick-off-without-shaun-white-their-biggest-star.html

Isn't X-Games kind of like Logan's Run, 29 and done? But that is a mystery. Here's additional comment in the Denver Post. "...And he's on fire this season. He won the Dew Tour halfpipe contest in December with back-to-back double-cork 1080s and his signature double McTwist 1260. After he won, he stayed on the course and signed autographs and posed for photos with a long line of fans. '"He hung out until the last person got their autograph," said Dew Tour announcer Jonathan Oetken. "He was having fun. He was on fire. He rode so well and he was so relaxed." "He was training in Canada's Calgary ski area this month...." Life is a carrousel so there are certain analogies that can be drawn between the X-Games and Logan's Run. However, I don't believe that is a matter of bad blood so much as Shaun White's trek towards sanctuary via significant promotional advances and the sponsors were unwilling to meet his demands. For those that lead mundane lives it is referred to as a cost/benefit analysis.
